Cynthia Reacts to "Kids React"

Yesterday I woke up with a giant pimple on my face and the first thing my dad said to me was, "I'm taking you to Neeta to get your passport photo done."

......

If you don't know, passport photos last for about 5 years before you have to redo them. So even when I'm twenty-something years old, I'll still have the same pimply-faced photo. Great.

So I was watching some youtube videos and I came across those darned "Kids React" ones. I have seen a few before  - I've watched "Kids React to K-pop", "Kids React to One-Direction" and "Kids React to The Hunger Games". From what I remember, I never really liked those kids and their snooty/pompous attitudes . I know they're just reacting and expressing their feelings over strange fads and whatnot but some of them are just so narrow minded. For example, in the Kids React to K-pop one, one guy was like, "I don't like it because I don't understand it." Uhh dude, I think that's because it's IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE. That video received so much negative feedback that the uploaders disabled the ratings bar. Does that seem redundant to you? The kids are allowed to react to k-pop but we're not allowed to react to their reaction.

I also watched "Kids React to Hatsune Miku". Yes, she's a machine, yes she's computer generated but that doesn't mean she ain't cool. And FYI, the language is Japanese, not "gibberish". There is a difference, guys. I also really wanted to punch that girl in the end. The one that goes, "I'm done. She's not a real person; this isn't real music; I don't want to listen to her anymore." That's like saying you won't listen to dubstep because it's not made by actual instruments.

Back to the K-pop video, one of the girls said, "You know what really bugs me? When Asian people bleach their hair, because it's really fake." Okay fine. So white people aren't allowed to dye their hair a colour other than their natural one? Duuuuuude, think before you speak.

/end rant

ANYWAYYYS, on to a different topic: don't hit me when I say this but I actually really like Justin Bieber's new album. Y'all can say what you want about him and his overblown pop-star status but you have to admit, the guy does make nice music HAHAHAHA. My favourite track is probably "As Long As You Love Me" - I know, cliched title but that doesn't make the song any less epic.

Song of the Week: "Payphone" Cover by Cimorelli

Who doesn't like the Cimorelli sisters?

I would like to form my own acapella group one day. But so far, I've only recruited one other person... Tian. Can you have an acapella group with just 2 people? Hmm... So far, when we've tried to serenade people, they usually just turn to give us a "wtf look". That's not supposed to happen, is it? I would also like to learn to beatbox. It seems like an awesome skill to have. But my lungs are pathetic so I don't know how well that would go.

On to other news - how do I manage to get myself into these situations? Farrrrrr. Do I have a sign tattooed onto my forehead that says, "Expert at Getting into Awkward Situations" or something? Srsly. It's okay if you don't know what I'm talking about. You're not supposed to know.

What else? Oh right, I think I should stop reading light novels - wait, I've said this before haven't I? Dammit. I keep making a resolution of reading profound, intellectual books but I'm starting to get the feeling that will never happen. Is this what addiction feels like?? Oh god, I need to go to book rehab.

The Performance

Guys, the CC day performance is up on facebook. Go and watch it (before the school forces me to take it down or something). You know you want to. Here, have a photo:

Woooooo!

Tomorrow will be the only highlight of my sad, sad week. I'm not gonna think about school, I'm not gonna think about the HSC, I'm not gonna think about the future - I'm just gonna think of a way of walking onto the stage without crashing into Sally (again).

I still can't believe one term's worth of work is getting paid off tomorrow. When I think about it, we dedicated so many hours after school, during school and on the weekends preparing for this. And before you know it, it'll be over in like 3-6 minutes. But at least it'll be fun. I've had so much fun with Snoop A. Gaahhh so excited.

Anyway, here's a teaser for tomorrow:

That's right girl. You work that thang.

Poor Mum

So my mum heard about the whole Fairfax/newspaper shutting down thing and I thought she was going to give me one of her "I told you so - you should've tried to become a doctor" speeches but she didn't. Instead, she got this full on horrified expression on her face and said, "No more newspapers???" She was worried you see, about only getting her news through the internet because she's not exactly tech-savvy. And she was like "But I need pictures!!" LOL. I told her you could get pictures on the internet as well but she wouldn't listen. Poor mum. She's even more traumatised about this than I am.

Change

I wish I could say I was different from everybody else and not worried about the future (because atm it seems to be a trend to blog about how screwed up your life is), but I'm not. I am exactly like everyone else cause I have no fucking idea what to do with myself.

Journalism is officially out of the question. After hearing all that stuff on the news about the budget cuts and Fairfax closing down, I'm pretty sure only a really brave or really stupid person would choose to do a course on journalism. There's not going to be a "Sydney Morning Herald" anymore. Media industries are closing down and firing thousands because everyone would rather get their news online. By the time I get out of Uni and start looking for a job, there will be very few newspapers left. I'm not mad at the world for changing. It'll be stupid to argue that technology is ruining our lives when it's obviously given us back so much more. But a small part of me just wonders why I couldn't have been born like, two decades ago.

Speaking of technology, I went to see Mr M today to get feedback for my major work. I was basically told that I had to rewrite 80% of it cause it was bad/irrelevant/boring and basically not of a good quality. In my head, I was thinking, "You tell me this now?? Especially when you could have said something like 5 weeks ago when I sent you that draft? I spent the last few weeks fixing up the wrong parts and doing the wrong things instead of dedicating time to my other subjects and now I get told that it was all irrelevant anyway." Then I felt mad at myself because I realised how petty I was being. He was only doing his job. Good teachers give feedback - no matter how painful it'll sound.

That didn't change the fact that I felt like doing this with my major work:

Photobucket

So then I went back to the group and moped about life. I moped about the upcoming trials and how instead of dedicating my time to studying and organizing notes/related texts/doing practice essays, I would be rewriting my major work during the holidays. I moped about the future and how I was so sick of hearing people say that my life was easy because I could do anything I wanted to and succeed. It's not easy. Especially when the areas you're interested in have very very very low job stability. After periods 4 & 5 I went home and continued moping. I forced myself to read the comments on the major work (because I knew it wasn't going to be any less painful than reading it a week later) and then spent half an hour wondering why I just did that when it'd made me feel about 10 times worse. And now I'm moping on my blog. God, I'm so pathetic.

Once Upon a Time Finale Reaction

There are no spoilers in this post. Only gifs. Lots of gifs. Cause I love me my gifs. So without further ado: Cynthia's Reaction to the Season Finale of Once Upon a Time in Gifs.

As you can see, I am very happy with the finale. I was surprised the writers went there... I never would have expected it in a billion years - especially in a show such as this. And yes this show is like 90% cheese but oh, how I love it. It's got so much story (heh) and heart. After each episode, I feel like running outside and chasing after rainbows and unicorns. Plus, after watching Doctor Who, my campy-ness tolerance is all the way up there anyway.

And oh god, so many old characters had cameos in the finale. And ******* was ******* with ******* and I went crazy during those scenes. AAARRRGHH SOMEBODY WATCH THE SHOW PLEASE SO I CAN SPAZ WITH YOU.

Only this show can make me want to simultaneously throw my shoes at the TV screen and hug the darned thing. Now I have to wait till after the HSC. Oh god, I hate the wait.

Where did my Saturday go?

YOUTUBE, Y YOU ALWAYS DISTRACT MEEEEE???

The Awkward Moment when Lee Min Ho has Nicer Hair Than Me

OH MY GOD WHAT THE FU-

Ohhhh I see. He's shooting a historical drama. Or more specifically, a time-travelling/medical/fusion-sageuk - in which he plays a Goryeo-era bodyguard to the king, who kidnaps a plastic surgeon from the 21st century. Wait - what??

The hair.... its so silky. I just want to touch it. I want to run my hands through those exceedingly feminine but pretty curls. I wonder what shampoo he uses.

Oh wait, nevermind. Just realised that its a wig. Shame.

My Favourite Fairytale

As a child, my favourite fairytale has always been The Little Mermaid. I mean, dude - there are mermaids - with like the whole tail/fin/living under the sea thingy. 'Nuff said. My favourite mythical creature has always been the mermaid and I even remember doing my Year 7 Visual Arts Project on them. I went around the class trading creatures with other people 'cause I originally ended up with "troll". Like WTF man - trolls aren't even pretty. Mermaids on the other hand, have that whole mystical allure thing which dragons, trolls and dwarves don't...

Weeeeeeee - mermaids :)

But I digress.

Point is, as a child, I always loved The Little Mermaid.

But as a teen? I think I'm being converted. True, The Little Mermaid will always have a place in my heart but I've recently realised that the story of Beauty and the Beast has the power to make me feel so incredibly sad and happy at the same time. This idea - of an ugly, deformed creature falling for a beautiful, kind girl is such a cliched trope but at the same time, never fails to entertain me. Do you guys remember my Phantom of the Opera phase? That time when I used to spam all your dashboards with my embarassing fangirling and gushings of the movie. If you don't, you can scroll down to the botton of the page and click on the Phantom of the Opera (POTO) tag. You have been warned though - it's not pretty. Anyway, I've just realised the reason I liked POTO so much was because it was a variation of the Beauty and the Beast story.

It's also why I kind of had a thing for Beastly when I first read it (the book - not the movie. Movie sucked shit, guys).

And it's also why I started wriggling on the couch from excitement whilst watching Once Upon a Time last night. They had a Beauty and the Beast themed episode and guess what? THEY PULLED IT OFF SO WELL AND I COULD NOT BE ANY HAPPIER. Plus, it helped that my favourite character of the series - the evil and deliciously-creepy Rumpelstiltskin played the role of the Beast. (Fair warning guys, this show takes a few massive liberties with the traditional stories). I couldn't have asked for more.

Random fun fact: The first season of glee scored an average of 9.77 million viewers whereas the first season of OUaT had an average of 11.71 million.

Other random fun facts: Emilie de Ravin (the actress who plays Belle) is Australian. She's also been on Lost and CSI and a whole other bunch of shows. Anyhow, in OUaT, she was allowed to keep her Australian accent. I didn't really notice it at first but on rewatch, it full came and hit me in the face. Belle must come from that part of Fairy Tale Land where all the Australians live. Funny that. I always though Belle was French.

I think this has been my favourite episode to date. I can't wait to see what *spoiler* does when he *spoiler* and omg *spoiler* cause *spoiler* is such an evil *spoiler*.

Also: EASTER EGG ALERT!! I see what you did there:

Hint: Chipped teacup + teapot on the side. Sneaky, sneaky....

Song of the Week: "Senza Riserva" by Annalisa

I graphically notated my reaction in regards to watching Once Upon A Time. Why? Well, why not? The X axis marks the episode progression whilst the Y axis denotes my current interest level in the series.
Oh and um guys, you don't need to get me anything for my birthday (which is coming up in like, 4 months). Just make me a cake. Preferably like this one:

No biggie - I'm sure you can pull it off.

What else did I want to say? Oh right - has anyone seen the new Florence + The Machine music video? Is it just me or are they like TOTALLY HAVING AN ORGY ON THE DANCE FLOOR AT THE END OF THE VIDEO OR WAS I IMAGINING THINGS??

And to end off: here, have an Italian music video:

I Got a Pocket, Got a Pocket Full of Sunshine

Easy A was much more hilarious that I'd expected it to be, and Emma Stone should win all the awards for her portrayal of Olive.

I especially loved this scene in the movie. That part where she goes, "I got - I got - I got a - I got.." nearly made me spit my milk out at my sister.

Cynthia Watches "Once Upon A Time"

Cynthia Watches "Once Upon A Time"

Also known as: "Cynthia Resists the Urge to Chuck Shoes at her T.V. Screen"

Yes I know I said I wouldn't be watching any T.V. shows lately. Yes I have a bunch of other things I want to watch (True Blood, Game of Thrones, Sherlock, anything else remotely geeky or nerdy, etc...). Yes I have this thing called the HSC to do. And yes, I know - my self-control sucks shit. I don't even know why I bother.

So where was I? Oh right - OUaT makes me want to chuck shoes at the T.V. screen. Mostly 'cause of Prince Charming - who I think should get his head blendered. LOL jokes. I don't hate him that much. I've just finished episode 6... so I'm still feeling angry over how he acted. Stupid shows with their stupid dramatic developments. I know they're necessary but they're just so FRUSTRATING. AAARRGHHH. If this season ends with a whole lot of angst and no plot development/story progression, imma gonna slap a bitch.

But I digress.

Once Upon a Time is not bad. True, it starts off pretty slow and a lot of the characters are pretty cliche (as cliched as misplaced fairy tale characters can be) but it does pick up and after a while, the cast do stop grating on your nerves. Plus, it's worth it just to watch Rumpelstiltskin acting creepy.

Okay, now my sister's watching Easy A and I'm getting distracted. Such a funny movie haha.

Song of the Week: "L'Amore E Femmina" by Nina Zilli

I realise that I blog the most during assessment periods. Go figure. I really need to stop doing this procrastination thingy - it's bad for my education.

I was going to post the Italian version but for the sake of people who read this blog, it made more sense to post the half-English version. Nina Zilli entered Eurovision this year. She didn't win because, obviously, the good songs rarely ever do.  It really is a great song though. And it doesn't hurt that she has Italian guys wearing colourful shirts dancing in the background. Haha. (Yes I know she looks like Amy Winehouse. You're only the 784,599th person to point that out).

Anyway, I want to start posting songs from other countries from now on. I have been doing that lately (with the whole Celtic Woman and Korean pop) thing but it's not enough. It should be fun to see what I can find though. BRING ON THE EUROPOP!!

Googling Yourself

Have you ever tried googling yourself? Of course you have! Everyone has - at some point in their lives. I haven't done that in a while so I tried, expecting to see this blog pop up. It didn't. What popped up was my twitter account (which I haven't used in about 60 years), my youtube account (which, before you ask, is only ever used for subscribing - not uploading) and some HSC band 6 honours roll thingo. Oh, and some other person's blog... but not mine. Actually, there was one other thing. The Fairfield Champion article about the Italy/France trip also popped up on the first google search page and in it, it said:

"Learning and studying about other cultures was a lot of fun and created wonderful memories and friendships," said year 11 student Cynthia *lastnamehiddenforprivacypurposes*. "The 13-day trip was enough. However, I wouldn't have minded a few more days. If I have the chance to go again, I would definitely go."

Hey look, I'm famous! LOL jokes, not really... Damn, one of my few moments of fame and I had to come up with such a generic/lame comment. Sad.

Speaking of sad people, I was doing my legal studies research task just a few hours ago and naturally, I came across a site about sperm donation (no I'm not perverted - the assessment's about birth technologies). It is quite hilarious what people tend to ask on those sites. I want to preserve people's privacy so instead of copying and pasting a typical question word by word, I'm going to rephrase it in my own way. However, this is really what these questions actually sound like:

"Hi, I am a handsome, intelligent, extremely fit (not to mention tall and sexy) man looking to donate. I have no doubt my seed are of a far superior quality. How do I go about doing this?"

^ LOLOLOLOLOLOL. Obnoxious much? Some guys even asked if they could have the nurse "assist" them. I found that HILARIOUS because no way does that ever happen in real life (only in lame American movies).

What? You don't find it funny? Boo, you're no fun.

Uh Oh. I just realised, that after this, if anyone was ever to google my name again, THIS post might pop up... THIS post - in which I talk about birth technologies and sperm donation. Whoops.

So anyway, I can't think of anything else to write.... so have a gif instead:
