What?

hehehehehehe. Male? Female? Other?

I have my shallow moments.

Heh.... I see what you're trying to do, you sneaky Korean channel. You think you're gonna be able to pull in ratings JUST BECAUSE you have the oh-so-sexy Lee Min Ho on your show? You think that releasing stills of Lee Min Ho in the shower is gonna make me want to watch your show?! Well it's gonna take a whole lot more than that to get me interested in City Hunter!

Oh wait, what am I talking about? I'm shallow, why wouldn't I want to watch the sexy Lee Min Ho kick butt and take hot steamy showers? LOL.

Oh btw. City Hunter in korean is pronounced "shitty hunter". hehehehehehe ^^

Talking to Myself

I am trying to limit the amount of time I spend procrastinating on the net so I'm gonna limit this post to 15 minutes.

There seems to be a lull in the amount of homework I'm getting from school. I didn't get any big assessment tasks last week (which is rare) so I took advantage of it by doing the-project-that-shall-not-be-named. I'm just gonna talk about the You-know-what for now. The-project-that-shall-not-be-named is the quite possibly the one thing that has depressed me throughout the whole year. If boggarts existed, my one would take on the form of this project. It's worth a whopping 80% of my course mark for history extension which is probably why I can't bring myself start writing it. I've worked on it on and off for the last 5 months but it feels like I've gotten ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE. It sits here on my desk, taunting me. When I look at it I feel depressed. When I work on it, I feel depressed because none of my research will help in my essay. When I don't work on it, I feel even more depressed because of the lack of progress.

I wish I could burn it. I miss having that feeling of "hey, there are no more projects/assessments to do! I'll just take advantage of this and go have some free time to do the things I love." I NEVER get that feeling anymore because there's always a voice in the back of my mind saying, "Well if you don't have any more assessments, why don't you work on the project? Just in case you get more assignments in the future and you don't have anymore time." Do you know what I mean? It's that fear of not doing anything productive with your time.

But I think time's running out. A draft has to be handed in 5 weeks time and I haven't even finished researching. Five weeks does seem like a long time but I know for a fact that I'm gonna be getting more assessments in the weeks to come. How will I cope then?

Another issue that's been stressing me out is 4 unit maths. I can't believe I have to make a decision about that so soon. At the beginning of the year, I was dead set on not doing it but the more people keep asking me about it, the more unsure I become. There is a 96.7% chance that I won't be able to cope with it. Just thinking about the extra time + homework load that will have to be dedicated to it is enough to make me cry. So many people have emphasized the difficulty of the topic. And to be honest, I don't even have a maths brain - I only do a lot of it. Oh the curse of being asian. LOL, jks. But then again, it feels like a waste to not at least give it a try. I mean, I slaved away at tutor all those years in those accelerated classes and for what? It seems like such a waste of effort.

Oh noes, my fifteen minutes is up. I'm sorry for the extremely boring post. Congratz if you even managed to get through it LOL. Anyways, I'm gonna get back to doing maths homework. SIGH.

I was going to think of a good story to go with this totally epic gif but I can't think of anything right now. Instead, I'll just entertain you with my stupidity:

  • I used to think cinnamon was made from apples. I now realise that just because cinnamon GOES WELL with apples, doesn't necessarily mean that its MADE from apples. According to Cynthia logic, the cinnamon part came from the peel of the apple that had been sun-dried. That would explain the brownness and dryness of it.

  • I once went over to Tian's house to get my house keys and then went home to unlock my house. I did that right, and then I walked back to Tian's house to return the keys. When I got back to my house, I realised that I had locked the door behind me and had to return to Tian's house to start all over.

  • SPAIN IS IN EUROPE. I only found this out recently. I spent my whole life thinking that Spain was situated somewhere in South America and the revelation only struck me while I was watching Eurovision because Spain was performing. I NEVER KNEW THAT. Did you know that? Just because people in South America can speak Spanish doesn't mean that Spain is a part of their continent. God, I suck.

EUROVISION 2011 RECAP

If you didn't tune in to SBS on Sunday Night at around 7:45 then you have probably missed the most awesome annual event of the year: EUROVISION. The night where sparkly pants and gelled hair are all the rage and its okay if you can't sing because WHO CARES?! YOU'VE GOT OVER 120 MILLION VIEWERS WATCHING YOU AROUND THE WORLD. HUZZAH!

For those of you who live under a rock, Eurovision is basically the biggest song competition in all of Europe. Over 50 countries take part and compete for the prestige of becoming Europe's most popular singer? Act? Um, something like that. Considering that each country can only enter ONE act (maximum of 5 or 6 people), it's amazing how many well.... crap acts get submitted. Like dude, you've got a whole freakin' country to choose from and you pick THAT singer. Srsly. HAHAHA. But I guess it makes sense because the winner of the previous year, their country has to host Eurovision the next year. Therefore if you don't win, you don't

need to spend millions on setting up the stage for next year.

It's a very simple process though. There are heats, semi-finals and a final. I usually only watch the final cause 24 acts is enough for me. The finale goes for about 3-4 hours? And during that time, people from all over Europe get to vote for their favourite. The funny thing is (and this cracks me up all the time), is that countries tend to vote for their neighbours LOL. So you've got Greece voting for Cyprus and Cyprus voting for Greece. Some, like the UK, are quite honest and they vote for their favourites but well, it doesn't always happen like that. Underneath all the glitz and glammer, is a simmering pot of geopolitics.

Anyways, I'm boring you with all this explaining, let me just get to my thoughts on Eurovision 2011. I'm just gonna talk about some of the acts that stood out to me:

IRELAND: Lipstick - John and Edward (aka Jedward, aka, the Red Jumping Dwarves)

This duo actually came from X factor in the UK. They're known as Jedward by the fans and they're apparently really popular over there (?) especially with the younger audience. HAHAHAHA. I swear to Buddha, they were like a pair of jumping jacks. THEY WOULD NOT STAND STILL. If they weren't doing hyperactive star jumps around the stage, they were doing hyperactive straddle jumps or something like that. And their costumes reminded me of something you would see at Lady Gaga's monster ball, complete with the elaborate-but-unecessary shoulder pads. Despite the seizure-causing backdrop, I actually quite liked them LOL. My sister thought I was crazy but well, I guess I was hypnotized but all the weird-ass jumping. And they reminded me of Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum from Alice in Wonderland :)

RUSSIA: Get You - Alex Sparrow (aka The Face (1))

I don't know why but Eurovision has this thing where they think that if you're young and pretty and keep winking at the camera, you'll win. Alex emcompasses all those things - he winked a record 4-5 times at the camera during his performance and he's got one of those stereotypical movie-star type faces. I've called him the face because well, that's what he is, a face. He even had one of those glowing back things that can light up and show a letter. He had three other back up dancers with those light things and together they spelt A-L-E-X. Pffffffff. The lyrics to his song went something like:

"Oh oh... I'm coming to get you
Oh oh... I'm running, I'm coming for you
Oh oh... I'm gonna get you
I know you, you want me too" -cue wink-

Enough said.

SWEDEN: Popular (?) - Eric Saade (aka The Face (2))

The pretty faces just kept on coming. I can see why he came 2nd. All the girls probably just fell over themselves trying to get to the phone to vote. I have to admit, he had a pretty nice face - he just couldn't sing. But that's okay. Why would you need to sing? It's only a SONG contest. More importantly, why bother singing at all when you've got a face like that?

GERMANY: Taken by a Stranger - Lena Meyer-Landrut (aka 2010 winner)

She probably received the most hysteria in the lead up to her performance. And why wouldn't she? After all, she WON last year and the contest was taking place in her home country in front of millions of her people. This was only the third time that a defending champion came back so it was pretty exciting. Was she able to repeat the magic of last year? According to the Australian commentators, not really. Her song that won last year was very pop-y and modern and I think she wanted to do something different this year. It still sounded modern but it wasn't as... crowd-pleasing as last years'.

Personally, I quite liked the song. About 80% of the Eurovision viewers wouldn't agree but honestly, if you listen to it a few times, it'll grow on you. Unlike all the people who just bring all the glitz and glammer to Eurovision, I reckon Lena can actually churn out a decent pop track. It actually sounded like something you would be able to hear on the radio. I liked it. And that black backdrop with the bright spotlights was amazing. Oh yeh, the hip movement thing was quite hypnotizing as well. Youtube it and you'll see what I mean.

AZERBAIJAN: Ell & Nikki - Running Scared (aka winners of Eurovision 2011)

Funnily enough, the one that I missed was the one that won. But that's okay, I still managed to hear the song as I scanned my maths book upstairs for Juliana. It's a really nice song though. Not too crazy (like Ireland's), not too modern (like Lena's) and not too operatic (like France - who, by the way NEVER sing in English because they think it's beneath them). It was a kind of pop-ballad about love (what else?) and there was a very glorious raining-molten-lava effect during the chorus- according to my sister. The song is addictive. Just not as addictive as Fairytale by Alexander Rybak. For me, Alexander Rybak will always be the ULTIMATE winner of Eurovision.

There were so many more acts out there but I could only skim the surface of it all. I didn't get to talk about Greece's horrible horrible rapping or Ukraine's epic sandpainting or Switzerland's Taylor Swift doppleganger. How about next year, we'll have a Eurovision party at my house. Then we can just laugh at the gaudiness of it all instead of me blogging about it to an imaginary audience. Okay? Okay :D

Just for the lulz

Was randomly looking through the pictures on my laptop and I found this. I don't even remember saving it.

I feel very frustrated right now. The internet on my laptop is lagging like crazy and it's not even because I'm capped. Aaaaargh, so frustratingggggggggg. Not to mention, I have an inexplicable urge to play Sims but I can't because it's like 11:44 at night and if I start playing it, I'll probably go to sleep at 4am.

Let the Games Begin?

YAY, all the tributes are finally assembled. The last two to join the cast are the District 2 tributes: Alexander Ludwig as Cato (who had initially auditioned for the role of Peeta), and Isabelle Fuhrman. If they sound familiar, it's because Alexander Ludwig was in The Race to Witch Mountain and Isabelle Fuhrman played Esther in Orphan.

Never Let Me Go

Looking at my blogger dashboard, I can see that Lyanna's most recent post is titled "Let Me Go". It is a total coincidence that my post is titled "Never Let Me Go" okay? I'm not trying to cramp her style :P "Never Let Me Go" is actually what I want to talk about today.

WARNING: The following post may contain spoilers about the book so people who are still reading it, you might wanna steer clear of this. I'm not actually doing a book review. This post will be a little bit different... as you will see. Oh and this post will not make much sense to people who don't know what "Never Let Me Go" is.

Okay, let me start off by saying that my feelings about the book are quite... mixed. I'm still trying to make sense of whether I like it or not. I KNOW a lot of people think I'm crazy right now. It seems like everyone I've talked to have told me that they absolutely love it and I guess I can see why? It's marketed as a "heartwarming story about friendship, love and the fragility of life" - so basically, one of those stories that cause you to think and reflect and make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Well not really, since the whole premise is quite depressing, but you know what I mean.

The thing is, I never quite got it. Okay I should rephrase: I didn't feel absorbed into the story or frankly, even that much interested. I know it sounds bad but I'm being truthful here and honestly, it didn't have that sense of ... what's the word? Drive? No. Absorption? I don't know. I didn't get that feeling that I usually get from reading a really good book - that interest that stays with you long after you've turned the last page. And I think I know why.

  1. The trailer spoilt it for me. I'm the type of person who, if something interests me, I pay really close attention to it and that's probably what happened to me. The trailer was so captivating and those little hints that they drop along the way, I kind of picked up and latched onto. Also Ms S was talking about cloning and the moral ethics associated with that during one of the earlier lessons and it helped me guess the basic plotline. A lot of people say they loved the book because it kept them guessing about what was gonna happen next. I didn't feel the suspense lol. Cause I ruined it for myself beforehand by watching the trailer.

  2. I expected too much. Judging from all the reviews on the books and how people full raved about it before I even got to read it, I was expecting something mindblowingly awesome. I s'pose it is awesome in its own way but I wanted more... um, stuff to happen? Not just reflections. I wanted to see Ruth and Tommy and Kathy DO something. Why didn't they fight back? Why didn't they rebel against their fate? If they could drive anywhere without being watched 24/7 why didn't they just make a run for it lol? And also, the trailer had a part in it where a kid goes, "They found a boy in the wood with his hands and feet cut off." That turned out to be totally unrelated to the story. It would have been awesome if that was somehow related to the plot line but no, it wasn't. I don't know. I felt mildly dissapointed by the end of it. Is it because I've been desensitized by all the other much shocking stuff I've read/watched? Was I expecting a really shocking story or something? WHY am I asking all these rhetorical questions? LOL.

  3. I totally did not buy the "love story" between Ruth, Tommy and Kathy. Like WTH. Tommy dates Ruth. Ruth breaks up with Tommy. Kathy turns out to have loved Tommy the whole time. They get together when Ruth dies. O-kay. Aside from that whole weird - dating your dead friend's ex, I kind of didn't feel that Kathy loved Tommy at all in the early years. I get how she felt kind of like the third wheel at times but seriously? Just cause she and Tommy talked about stuff when they were young DOES NOT MEAN that she harboured a long secret crush that she kept buried for like, 20 years. Where was the heartbreak and tension? WOULD you even let your friend date the guy you deeply loved for, I don't know, 7 years, and not freakin' say anything about it? I get that you're a very generous, loving person but GIRL, YOU MUST BE THE FLATTEST DOORMAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. SRSLY.

  4. I am a heartless person who can't feel empathy - even if it suddenly bursts out of the computer screen and smacks me in the face. A lot of people said this book made them feel sad/angry/reflective. I just felt... mildly let down. HAHAHAHA. Maybe, I don't know. Actually don't believe this is the reason. Why? Because I full turned into a blubbering mess when I read "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak, so THERE. I do have feelings.

I half want to brainwash myself and then read the book again without any preconceptions, just so I could enjoy it as much as other people seem to have enjoyed it. Ah wells, I'll just have to live with it, I guess. It's a shame though. I would have liked to rant about its awesomeness with everybody else :(

Now for some other totally irrelevant things I have to say:

  • I really really really really love the new Sims 3 Generations trailer. When I first saw it, I was like, *yawn* it doesn't really show anything new. But then I watched it again, and again and its grown on me LOL. Maybe its the song: "Time Bomb" by All Time Low. I really like that song.

  • My mum really likes Lady Gaga. She totally loved the concert that aired on Channel 11 the other day and won't stop telling my neighbour about it. I liked it too. Her songs might get on my nerves but man she sure can perform and sing. I have become a fan :)

  • I always get cravings for ice cream in winter. If I say I want to buy a golden gaytime at lunch, someone please stop me.

,

Oh Mr Sparkly Pants

I was gonna jumpt straight into doing homework after coming back from school today but as you can see, I just can't do it. My computer is such a distraction. Everytime I turn it on, I have to make my rounds and that includes: blogspot, youtube, facebook, dramabeans, eatyourkimchi, mockingjay, etc, etc. Eventually I end up wasting about an hour and a half or more. Someone needs to start holding Computerholics Anonymous sessions cause honestly, I can't cure this addiction :(

Well anyway, english exam today was a fail. You know that last 5 mark question that tells you to talk about 2 texts in depth? Well I only had time to talk about one. That's probably like 3 marks gone already. Jeez, I spent way more time on the second last question than the last question :( When Ms S said, "Five more minutes left" you could literally hear half the class head-desk their table.

What else have I done to procrastinate? Oh that's right, I've been reading Night Huntress. DAMN YOU LYANNA for introducing me to the series. I'm already up to book five, LOL. I do like it though, even though it's got absolutely no meaningful message to tell the audience, not much of a storyline and just jumps all over the place in terms of character development. The only way to describe it is "crack for your brain". Kind of like korean dramas and their tendency to brainwash you with annoyingly addictive episodes.

Eurovision is coming soon. Hehehehehe, I love Eurovision. It's always so funny watching the different acts. Almost as funny as watching Tian's reaction when she walks past the "bra" section of Targets. Almost. But not quite. I can never understand how some people even get through to the finals. You have a whole freakin' country to find talent from and what do you end up with? Some middle aged guy in sparkly pants, crooning out a cheesy ballad while the background dancers do belly dancing. Yeh, I'm talking to you Greece. What? Do you have a surplus of half-naked middle aged guys or something?

I wonder if Turkey's going for the over-the-top type of performance again. A few years ago, they had this blonde, heavily made-up woman clad in a bra and not much else singing whilst her back-up dancers (muscly guys in gladiator costumes) picked her up raised her above the stage. It was so funny. Especially when the stage erupted with pyrotechnics and blazing light displays for the finale. And who can forget the classic "Balkan" number by Serbia last year?

This guy is priceless. Go youtube "Serbia Eurovision Milan Stankovic" if you ever feel the need to be.... inspired.

But anyway, I kind of wonder if the countries do this deliberately - choose wacky dancers in order to stuff up their own chances of winning. It could be an explanation I suppose. Especially since the winning country usually has to host the competition the very next year.
