Extra Photos

I've been thinking of posting some stuff that I didn't get to post about while I was in America. Over there, I was always rushing around so I didn't get to post some stuff that I really wanted to post. And anyway, the only thing these photos are doing right now, are rotting in my computer. So since its the weekend and the only other thing to do is the (gay) PE assignment, I guess I'll just upload them now. (Feel free to skip if you're not interested).

Home Sweet Home

Or in my case - Home Sour Home. lolz.

Wow, I still can't believe that I'm back in Australia. Nothing seems to have changed since I've left. Well, except for that 60 x 30 cm wide spider web hanging in the corner of my room. Jesus, someone bring a broom please ><'

Let me backtrack. 12pm Los Angeles time yesterday, I was boarding the plane to Sydney. You know how I said the flight to LA was the worst flight ever? Well this one was probably the BEST flight ever cuz it was the new QANTAS airbus. Everything was like, fully high tech and pretty :) The bad part was, I sat next to this Mexican dude who kept coughing and sneezing in my face every minute.

LOL I'm joking, I'm joking. Seriousl, you can take off those latex gloves and mask that you've just put on...

Again, I got my own TV and I watched a few movies during the flight. I watched Memoirs of a Geisha (which was really good btw) and then some of "Shakespeare in Love" and "Atonement". I think I fell asleep after that and when I woke up, there was only 3 hours left of the flight. I spent 2 hours of that time watching Peter Pan :L That boy that plays Peter Pan is so cuuute.. I just want to give him a thimble XD

Tian's dad was at the airport to pick us up after we went through the luggage check. It was funny cuz the bag-checking dude kept looking at our dodgy asian products. He was like, "What is this?" and "Where did you get it?" the whole time. Funny shit man XD. Guess how many luggage bags we had? There were SEVEN big luggage bags + FIVE carry-on bags. My dad took a photo of all our luggage - I might upload that later.

It was nice to see familiar roads and streets again. The streets looked really tiny and squashy compared to LA's freeways. I never noticed that before. Oh, and it was nice to see the driver sitting on the right side of the car again.

Yeh, I got home at 8:35am and right now, its 10:30am. I missed my house, well, to be more specific, I missed the smell of my house :) There's a big gathering of adults and neighbours downstairs in my garage so I don't really want to go down there. & did I mention the SEVEN bags of luggage + FIVE carry on bags that's crowding my living room? Ewww one thing I hate more than packing is unpacking.

It's so strange. All that happened in America now feels like a very vivid dream. Now that I'm sitting in my room, I'm wondering: Did I really go to New York and stand on the top floor of the Empire State Building? Did I really go to Disneyland, San Francisco, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Hollywood AND Manhattan? It sure doesn't feel like it.... Was I dreaming?

Oh yeh, I nearly lost all my photos of America. My dad's laptop crashed at the airport and it wouldn't turn on during the whole flight. He tried taking the hard disk out and putting it in my sister's laptop but it still wouldn't work. Lucky, he fixed it when we got home though. Phew.

Anyway, to round it all up, America was fun. There were so many cool things such as 1000 types of fast food restaurants, fire hydrants, freeways and pretty streets. It was an escape from the real world and was great while it lasted but now, its time to put it all behind. I have to go to school on Monday :( -sigh- isn't that depressing?

Now on to a different topic. While we were in America, something strange happened in my aunt's flat. A man died in one of the rooms and his body was discovered a few days later. The man's neighbours noticed that he wasn't collecting his mail and they called the police who broke into his flat. Isn't that scary?...

Also, I finally got my report and Mr E's comment made me laugh. He wrote, "It is very pleasing to see the quality grade you gained in your elective classes, keep up the enthusiasm."

1. To put it bluntly, music was the worst result out of my entire report.
2. High achievers? Well, no one gets a mark or ranking for that subject.
3. Chyeah, like you totally see me jumping up and down with enthusiasm whenever Ms. H talks in music...

Mr E, you are soooo attentive aren't you? Out of curiosity, did anyone else get this comment cuz I have a feeling he might've just copied and pasted.

Another issue, who is this "Edward" I keep hearing about in people's blogs? >_> Is he a vampire? LOLs. Meh, I don't care anyway, I have a new love. His name is Peter Pan and he wears tights covered in leaves. Sexyyy ;)

Love Cynthia aka Beetroot LOL

Universal Studios - Kind Of...

Today I went to Universal Studios. It was alright but not even close to how fun Disneyland was. Ermm I took photos for the first hour or so and then I kind of thought "what the hell. I'm here to have fun not take photos" LOL. So if you want to see them, tell me in a comment and I'll post my videos and photos. Otherwise, I'll just sit back and be lazy :)

Most people are at school right now so there's no one to talk to. Maybe I'll wait for a few hours until people come back from school. In the meantime, I'll just sit here and meditate. HUMMMM...
Nah I'm joking, I'll just sit here, watch disney channel and maybe read the two books I bought from Borders recently: Wings by Aprilynne Pike and Hunger Games by someone-who-I-forgot-the-name-of.

Wings is an interesting book about faeries ^^ Except these faeries are different from traditional faeries because they are actually plant people-ish. Laurel finds that she's got a pair of giant flowers that look like wings growing out of her back and then all this stuff happens like her falling in love with two guys. Its not like traditional faeries - similar to how twilight doesn't have "traditional" vampires.Ooooh yeh, even more interesting is how faeries reproduce- its got something to do with the males getting pollen on their hands and then putting it into a female's "flower-wings". LOL. yes, I know I buy strange books....

*sigh* I'm going back to Australia in two days. Noooo, I don't wanna return to the real world where there's projects, school and no more disney channel :( How am I going to survive without being able to watch any more Hannah Montana, The Suite Life and Wizards of Waverly Place 24/7? What am I going to do if I can't record squirrels climbing up trees anymore? How will I spend my time if I don't have any more fire hydrants to photograph? HUH?! TELL ME!
O' the horror of it all.

But I guess its all worth it if I get to see everyone again :)

P.S. Juliana, you've got two more days to watch POTO, otherwise I'll... err... I'll... POKE YOU. DUN DUN DUN DUNNNN!

The Strangest Bus Ride Ever

For once, I'm not feeling rushed to blog. I'm at a random person's house and all there is to do is use the laptop anyway + wait for people to go on msn - stupid time difference.

So, a few days ago, I watched Harry Potter at a cinema. It wasn't all that different from Australia except for them calling the counter a "box office" instead of ticket-buying-place. The movie was alright, not much action. I felt so sad and nearly cried when Hermione was feeling sad about Ron. Stupid Ron & Lavender :( But when Dumbledore died, I didn't really care. I mean, he was old anyways.

Hmm, I don't think I'm going anywhere else in America. Tomorrow, we're visiting mum's friends and the day after that, Universal Studios. I'm getting on the plane on Wednesday and because of the time difference, I'm arriving on Friday. Uggh I don't wanna go back to school. I'll miss the feeling of having no stress and I'll also miss Disney Channel :'(

Damn Ms S. is also gonna start chasing me again about typequick. bleh. & I'm also gonna get my crappy maths tutor results. double BLEH. & did I mention catching up on work? T_T I just want to stay near Disneyland. Maybe i can get a job there, like selling cotton candy or churros or something? LOL.

Did you know that people get fined in America if their lawn is too green? You also get fined if you don't cross the street at a pedestrian crossing.

On the way back from the San Francisco tour, a fight nearly happened on the coach. The tour guide was collecting tips from everyone (cuz you need to pay tips in America) and when he got to a particular man, they started arguing. Here's how the convo went:

Guide: Tips please.

Man: Can I pay when we get off?

Guide: What do you mean?

Man: Well, I just want to pay when we get off.

*
just so you know, the tour guide and this particular man had had a
previous argument before and they already sort of hated each other*

Guide: *points finger at the other man's face* NOW YOU LISTEN TO
ME-

Man: HOW DARE YOU POINT YOUR FINGER AT ME! DON'T POINT AT ME!

Guide: *puts his finger even closer to the man's face* YOU
RUDE-

Man: NO, YOU DIDN'T LET ME EXPLAIN! GET YOUR FINGER AWAY! *
swipes the
man's finger away*

Guide: You, You. are. in. big. trouble. Bastard!

Man: PUCK YOU! (yes, the "p" is intentional)

*
the tour guide continues down the aisle collecting tips and then he
returns to the front of the coach. Ten minutes later, he goes back down to the
man and says
:*

Guide: At the next stop, you will grab your luggage and get off this bus. I
rang the police and they will come pick you up. I told them that you are a
threat to the people here. They are coming to take you away.

Man: NO! NO! please no! You didn't let me explain!

* the guide ignores him and walks away*

Haha, that was the most interesting bus ride ever.

Anyways, I'm getting bored so I'll just go off now... Hope everyone's enjoying the rest of their holidays and yeh, cyas :)

The Grand Canyon

So much stuff happened on the tour to Vegas. I think I'll split each day into separate posts. Lets start with Day 1

We woke up at 6, got ready and my great-uncle drove us to the coach pick-up place. It was mostly asians there cuz it was an asian tour. In our group, there were also a few american people, some people from Thailand, Australia, Taiwan, France and Portugal, but that was only a small, small percentage.

The tour guide was this spastic dude called Jackson. I hated him -.-'. By the end of the tour, I wanted to shake him and scream but I resisted the urge. I'll explain later. He spoke 3 languages, cantonese, mandarin and fob english. To him, awesome was "arrrrsome".

Anyway, we drove for like 2 hours, then stopped at McDonalds, and then we drove for another 3. It wasn't that boring cuz we watched movies and looked at joshua trees. The view was arrrrsome and I took loads of photos. After the whole drive, we arrived at a ranch that was near the Grand Canyon.

This place was like nothing I've ever been to. It was literally IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. & it was burning hot. It was built like one of those ranches from cowboy movies and everyone, I mean everyone who worked there, was wearing cowboy outfitst, complete with the hat and guns. If you're wondering, the guns were real. They put on a show and fired. Their accents were so cool. It was the classic american-country accent, complete with y'alls and howdy.

We stayed in cabins that were kind of cramped but cool. There were pictures on the walls about the Wild West. The bad thing was the flies on the windowsill. That was kind of gross.
You know what else was gross? The thing that we had to pee in.
Nahh, I'm just messing with you. We had a real toilet.
The ranch had kind of gay attractions though, such as some game with horsehoes, fake cow wrangling and the horse wagon.

Serena and I went on the horse wagon. Basically, we sat in the wagon in the burning sun for 20 minutes with 10 other people. The driver was an antisocial guy who seemed like he didn't care anymore about his job. I didn't blame him. How would you feel if you had to tow a wagon of tourists up and down the same trail everyday in the hot hot sun? He did talk a little bit about his town, how he had to drive to work 1.5 hours everyday and also how he made a living from rounding up horses. Again the accent was so cool. There was a funny moment when the horse farted right in my sister's face.

After that, we went to the Skywalk over the Grand Canyon. It was alright. We were 4000 feet above the ground - that's a lot. Basically, the skywalk is a glass floor suspended over the canyon. We had to wear special slippers so that we didn't scratch the glass.

We then watched the sunset over the Grand Canyon. It was very pretty :)

Afterwards, we headed back to the ranch where we had dinner and live entertainment. There was a one person band and also a magic show. The most embarassing part was when my parents headed out to the dance floor and started doing line dancing. One of the cowboy dudes danced with my mum. Problem was, she didn't really know how to so it turned out like a waddle type of thing.
Afterwards, there was a campfire and the cowboys sang country songs about America. We toasted marshmallows and ate them in a biscuit thing with chocolate :) The campfire ended up going for quite a while until people realised that they had to wake up at 5 to see the sun rise the next day.

There's a hundred other things that I can tell you about but I've gotta end of here. Goodnight :)

The Diner

Continuing on from the previous blog. (Don't read this one until you've read the one b4, otherwise you might not understand)

More about my aunt's diner:

LOL, that family eating there were giving me weird looks so I couldn't continue filming in that direction...

Anyways, I gotta get to sleep. I'm waking up at 6 tomorrow. G'night (L)

American McDonalds

Ok, I gotta make this short. The internet's running out and i'm very very close to getting banned from the laptop (damn parents). Maybe I won't be able to go on msn after all.

I remember saying that I would take a picture of the American McDonalds for you guys so that you could compare the menu. Well.. I didn't get to. WAIT! Before you start yelling at me, let me explain. :L

We went to McDonalds today and embarassing stuff happened (again). We spent AGES looking up at the menu and the lady behind the register got pissed at us. I ordered an apple pie coz it was the first thing I saw. My dad asked for tea but OMG they don't have tea! The lady was like, "What? We don't have tea..." And she gave my dad a weird look.

When we sat down, I saw a sign that said "No loitering. Maximum time allowed in restaurant: 30 minutes." I joked about taking a picture and showing it to you guys but I didn't really mean it. Stupid dad heard and said, "I'll do it instead!" I couldn't stop him in time and before you know it, he was already standing in front of the sign taking pictures. T_T' The cleaning lady went up to him and said, "Hey! What are you doing?" and he said in his ultra-fobby accent, "I'm taking pictures of da sign." She gave him another weird look and said, "What country are you from?" LOL. By this time, everyone in the restaurant was looking at him. Even the manager who was working as a cashier, was staring...

But yeh, point is, I just couldn't do it. I was embarassed enough cuz of my dad :( How could I just walk to the front of the restaurant, in front of all the McDonalds people, and start snapping away at the menu? I'm very sorry people ><' I have failed you. Maybe next time... when my dad isn't with me.

I'll see if I can continue this later... my parents are majorly pissed and I still haven't talked about Chinatown. If not, then goodbye, see you in 3 days time. I'm going VEGAS tomorrow XD Hope everyone's well and enjoying their last few days of school. I miss you guys so much.

HAHAHA! Anyone want an eyebrow? That's $7 thank you very much :)

Psshh. As if anyone would want to rent HER.

The candyman can coz he mixes it with love and makes the world taste gooood :)

Day 2

Day 2

Well, I didn't do much today so there's not much to blog about I guess. In the morning, we went to Yum Cha where I nearly died from eating too much. See, I have this overly enthusiastic aunt who seems to think I'm always hungry. Yesterday, she made me a HUGE ham and cheese sandwich which I only ate half of. I felt bad so I chucked the rest in the bin so she wouldn't see. When I went to wash the plate, she asked me, "Are you still hungry? I can make you another sandwich."

Back to Yum Cha. She ordered 10 dishes at once and was like, "That's not all. Just order anything else you want." Later, she kept piling stuff up onto my plate and when I ate one dim sum, she added two more. It was so bad, and no one was there to save me T_T.

Nah, but that aunty is really nice. She owns a jewellery shop and gave me a necklace worth 23 $US for free. Here, I took pictures of her shop:

When she saw me looking at rings she asked me which one I wanted and said she would give it to me for free. LOL. I was saved by my mum.

After that, we went to the travel agent where we booked the tour to NY. I got bored so I wandered into the asian drama/book shop next door. ^^ Look what I found!

It's so weird. So far, I haven't done anything that was like "american". I mean, we've been going to asian shops, yum cha and more asian shops. Like, can't I do that back home, in Cabra? But it can't be helped, I do what my parents want, not what I want. UGGGH! I think we're going to Chinatown tomorrow :(
Last night, some of my mum's old friends came over and they brought their 6th grader son. He seemed to think Australians were stupid and he asked me, "Do you know who Obama is?" LOL. I was like, duh! & then when I asked him if he knew who Kevin Rudd was, he was totally clueless. Ah well, it's not our fault we're an isolated lil' continent. Apart from that, he also asked me why I sounded British T_T'

Oh well, I was willing to put up with that since he's the only person who talked to me here who wasn't my sister or a relative. Actually, not even my relatives talk to me. I have two 18 year old cousins who I don't really talk to. Yesterday, we walked around the block and it was sooooooooo awkwardly silent. I couldn't stand it so I started taking pictures of fire hydrants. They kept giving me WTF looks :L Apparently, there's a very very big mansion up the street. My aunty calls it "the castle".

Here is a video of the neighbourhood:

The houses here are really nice and the streets are just like in the movies. The front of our street has trees arching over it. It's quite pretty...

Anyways, I miss everyone so much. It's so BORING having no-one to talk to everyday -.- Can't believe I'm gonna do this for 4 weeks -you guys are so gonna get bored of my posts. I kind of felt homesick today so I watched Phantom of the Opera :L - that didn't really help though. btw, I'll try to go on msn at 11 pm, which is 4 pm your time the next day. But that depends on whether my msn feels like working. I will now go hang out with my temporary friends, Hannah Montana and Selena Gomez (gotta love disney channel).

Love Cynthia

P.S More random photos:

Spot the Fire Hydrant

Let's play a game. It's called, "Spot the Fire Hydrant"XD

LOL. This is what I'm doing while you guys are getting your reports... Damn it's only day 1 and I'm already bored. (btw, the current time is 10:41pm here, I haven't slept for 24 hours)

Some things that I've noticed about America is that they have LOTS and LOTS of freeways, fire hydrants, american flags outside their houses and of course lamp-posts. The police cars black and white, not just white. Yeh...that was something else I found strange. Oooh! I nearly forgot. They have MORE THAN 500 different channels for their tv - although you do need to pay for some of them. I don't have anyone to talk to but at least I'll always have something to watch... :)
