Interesting Fact

Did you know that Koreans have very different attitudes towards cosmetic surgery than Australians?

For example, in Korea, the gift that parents usually give their child before she/he starts high school is eyelid surgery. You know, the one where they fix up your eyes so that you actually have a fold. To them, that's normal.

Isn't that interesting? I saw it on some program on SBS. It's kinda like, "Hey honey, you're too asian. Now go get surgery to fix up those asian eyes."

LOL. But hey, whatever suits their fancy. Like I can understand why they'd do it. (Korean children, I feel your pain.)

Darling Harbour/ City

Today, I went to the city with my family. Usually, I dont' like going places with them cuz they're so freakin' embarassing but today was alright :)

At Darling Harbour, the Hoopla festival was on, which was was basically a circus kinda thing spread out all over the harbour. There were fire jugglers, clowns, death-defying acts, etc. Some of it was pretty cool and some of it was like... For example, there was an old guy wearing a VERY TIGHT leotard and he was unicycling to "Love is in the Air". Yeh... that made ME feel uncomfortable and I wasn't even the one wearing a VERY TIGHT LEOTARD while unicycling.

I liked the breakdancing on the ladder. That was kinda cool. There were so many people there today though, everyone was taking advantage of the long weekend to go out to the city.

I went shopping for a bit as well. Bought a singlet-tee from valley girl and a stripy hoodie thing from ICE. God, my mum wouldn't stop talking to the shop assistant while I was in the change rooms. They talked about where they were from and my mum wouldn't stop chucking clothes over the door. But I couldn't complain since she was the one buying them.

After that, my aunty brought us to the most awesomest Japanese restaurant ever. It's called Mizuya, is located on George St. and is actually tucked underground so you have to go down some stairs to reach it. I liked it cuz you order on computer screens :D And plus its so pretty. They had glowing cherry blossom trees and lots of little, private tables.

I was so tempted to just press everything on the computer screen... but I resisted.

After that, my sister and I went to the new apple store to look for iPod earphones. We walked out again after 5 minutes. Seriously, $40 bucks for a pair of earphones? JEEEEEEZ.

Um, we also went JB Hi-Fi and I bought this:

LOL that expression is so freaky.

A friend once told me that "Amelie" was her favourite movie and that I should watch it. That was 5 years ago... LOL I think its about time I watched it.

There's so much else that I did but I don't have time to blog about it all. Gotta go tutoring in 5 minutes :( I bought ice cream at Darling Harbour and for once it wasn't mint choc chip. From now on, I'm going to try something different everytime. Otherwise how else will I know if I like it or not?

End of Term 1

This is my second post of the week. Like woah, what has gotten into me. I haven't blogged in a month and a half and suddenly, I've blogged twice in a week. I guess its because it's the:

HOLIDAYS!!!

Such a relief man. Term 1 was so hectic :'( At times it was like I was drowning but I got through it.

1 down; 3 more to go.

I'll just talk a bit about the stuff that happened this term.

I tried out for E-day LOL and totally bombed my audition. It was so FREAKIN SCARY. Like now that I think about it, it shouldn't have been that hard but it was :( I'm such a big chicken these days but when i think about it, I wasn't at all shy when I was small... Anyway, at the end of it, the teachers+students gave me this pitying look; kind of like, "You tried but you sucked." I just can't get over my nervousness. God, I hope I don't have stage fright.

But yeh, for some reason I still got in LOL.

This term, I also found out that Bonnie, Othilia, Tian, Jun and I are going to be playing at the Opera House :D Violin, I mean. The concert is going to be called "Jacaranda" and is part of the "Festival of Instrumental Music". At least that's what it says on my note here but in my opinion it should really be "Festival of the Squawking Geese" because that's what my violin sounds like right now. Oh well, I guess its not that bad compared to my sister's oboe playing. She makes my violin playing sound like a Edward Cullen's voice.

Anyway, So You Think You Can Dance is gonna finish in about a month. I want Jessie, Robbie, Ivy and Philippe(?) to be the Top 4. And I want either Jessie or Robbie to win. Remember these words people. Jessie and Robbie are going to WIN.

Last but not least, here is a game that EVERYONE should play. It's called Boomshine and its seriously the most addictive game in the whole universe.

You know you want to.

Breaking Down ("down" not "dawn") the Twilight Phenomenon

Hello Blogspot :) Haven't seen you in a while... Term 1 was just too hectic to make time to blog anymore. But don't worry, I'm going to revive you now.

Daily Desktop Calender Quote (DDCQ)

"What I do with today is very important because i will
be exchanging a day of my life for it" - Anonymous

*****

Okay, let's get right into it. Today I will be talking about everyone's favourite topic: Twilight. Nononono, don't close the page yet. Let me explain, I'm going to be talking about:

THE TWILIGHT PHENOMENON - WHY PEOPLE HATE/LOVE IT

Hehehe, I've ALWAYS wanted to do this; blog about the massively controversial issue that swept the world during the years 2006 to 2010 and still continues, even to this day. Why was it so popular? That's a question that I keep asking myself.

Everyone knows I went through a twilight phase... I had cynthia[cullen] as my msn nick for like, 2 years. LOL. I have 2 copies of twilight, one of New Moon, one of Eclipse and 2 of Breaking Dawn. The first copy I had, had the UK cover and for some reason I can't seem to find it anymore.

Remember this?

Shame... I could probably sell it for a lot of money since they don't print the UK copies anymore. Anyways, I was really obsessed, like really really obsessed. I lived, breathed and dreamed Twilight. But my obsession has run its course. I still have a soft spot for the Twilight series but no longer do I spend 5 hours designing twilight themed layouts on photoshop.

Whoops, I'm rambling. The point I'm trying to make is: Twilight is addictive. It's like crack for your brain. I don't know what it is but (most) people who read it get caught up in it. Is it Edward Cullen? Is it the vampire/human love story? When you think about it, there's nothing in it that other books can't have but still, it managed to surpass everything else become like, one of the most famous books in the world. Maybe Stephenie Meyer just writes really good. I don't know, and honestly, I don't really care. As long as it keeps entertaining people, then I have no complaint.

Okay, so now that I've established that Twilight is an entertaining book (in my opinion), I want to find out why people hate it. Why do people roll their eyes when they hear others say, "OMG I LOOOVE TWILIGHT!" ( I know you do it cuz I do it too. Don't deny it.) Why do some people just hate it so much? After giving it some thought and trying not to be biased (although I might not have succeeded here), I've come to a few conclusions. Here are my theories:

1. It's just not a good book. Simple as that. Maybe the plot doesn't appeal to some people, and the writing's crap. If that's the case, then ok, I rest my case.

2. If a lot of people like something, then by the laws of human nature, there will be others who hate it. This is true right? Take Harry Potter for example, I THINK there are people out there who are calling it overrated and stuff. This point might need a bit more research though.

3. I like this point: People are reading too much into it. They call it "shallow" and "unoriginal" but honestly, what are they expecting? How to Kill a Mockingbird? Twilight is a book for entertainment. Period. It is not a deep, philosophical book filled with important life lessons and maybe that's why some people call it overrated. Take my primary school teacher for example. When I was in my "phase", I convinced her to read it. She read it, returned it to me and then said, "Oh, so you like THESE types of books." I don't think she liked it. She probably thought it was gonna be a deep, multilayered, profound kind of book.

Some people just expect too much from it. They think because so many people have read it and liked it, that it must contain some kind of meaningful life lesson. Wrong. We like it because its a great, riveting read. If you want something meaningful, go read something by Jane Austen, no?

4. I don't really think this point is true but I have heard it being discussed so I'll just chuck it in here. Guys don't like twilight because of Edward Cullen. He took "the perfect man" to the next level and guys just can't compete. I'll admit, it does make sense but honestly, what kind of guy gets jealous of a fiction character? O_O Plus, I know some guys who have read twilight and they liked it.

5. THE MOVIES WERE SHIT. Kind of... compared to the books, I mean. Bad movie = bad impression of Twilight. Plus, Robert Pattinson's waxy, pale skin and eerily long eyelashes sometimes contributes to the "fag" factor. No offense to Robert Pattinson though - he seems like a nice guy/great actor, even though he totally ruined the image of Edward I'd had beforehand. (Thanks to Nancy for this point.)

So these are my theories of why people hate/love it. Sorry if I offended anyone, I just wanted to analyze people's motives/reasons. If you think something here was wrong or if you just want to add your own points, then comment and I'll put it in my next post. Or if you just want to argue for the sake of arguing then by all means - I'll try to argue back :D

*****

Wow, this was a REALLY REALLY LONG POST. I think i'm gonna end it off here with one more thing.

Apparently, my little sister's received a marriage proposal even before I've gone on my first official date. Isn't that just sad? She told me that in year 2, one of her friends named Jayden asked her to marry him :L He said, "Serena, I like you. Will you marry me?" LOL. Isn't that so cute? Too bad she only told him "maybe".

ROBBIEEEEE!

ROBBIEEEEE!!! Did anyone else watch the Jazz routine on Wednesday? The one to Lady Gaga's Bad Romance? The one that earned the first standing ovation of the season? OMG IT WAS BALLISTIC. Best routine of the season (so far). I so did not see that coming :D But seriously man: Robbie + Ivy = WOOOAAAHHHHH.

LOL. Sorry, SYTYCD is just the phase that I go through every year so you're just gonna have to put up with it :P or skip reading my blogs for a while

Today I watched "The Amistad" with Lyanna and Snezana. It was about slavery, etc., etc. and there was full nudity since the slaves didn't have any clothes to wear. And I mean FULL NUDITY, especially for the male slaves. Lyanna and Snez were traumatised and going, "EWWWWW!". Meanwhile I was laughing (at them and the movie) and thinking to myself, "Obviously they haven't seen Bruno."
Remind to thank Manly one day.

Right now my parents and my sister are downstairs playing with the Wii that my sis just got for her birthday. Everytime I look at it, I'm reminded of my dad saying that we're gonna save money for an overseas trip, and then buying the Wii the day after he said that.

My aunty knows of my obsession with Johnny Depp. I don't know how but she just does O_O. Anyway, she went out and bought "Sleepy Hollow" for me. She prounouces it like "Leeapy Ollow" but hey, that was pretty cool of her :)

And now I'm gonna finish of this very short, crappy blog post. Bye!

,

Green Eyes and Red Hair = Sexy ;)

I don't know why people think Johnny Depp is ugly.

I mean, honestly, who can resist that?

Oh and before I forget, there's this painting that hangs in my house. This is what it says at the top:

If that doesn't scream ASIAN!!! I don't know what does...
