I'm really worried about the last two questions of the 3 unit maths exam. In all the past papers that I've done, I've rarely ever managed to complete the last question. Plus, they take forever. I'm wondering if I should even waste my time on them tomorrow. Would it be better to dedicate the rest of my exam time on those ugly questions or should I just use that time to check over my paper for silly mistakes? Decisions, decisions....
I highly doubt it but would there happen to be anyone out there nice enough to help me with this probability question? I would be ETERNALLY grateful if there was :D :D :D I've been staring at it for the past half hour and I haven't gotten anywhere. Le sigh. Biggest waste of my life. Anyhoo, here it is:
In a tennis club, there are five (5) married couples available to play a "mixed doubles" match, that is, a match in which a combination of one man and one woman play against a combination of another man and another woman. Inhow many ways can a group of four (4) person be chosen for this match if:
i) a man and his wife may play in the match but not as partners?
ii)a man and his wife may not play in the match either as partners of opponents?
The answers are: i) 130 and ii) 60.
I remember doing the question at tutor but when I was flipping back through my book, I had no idea what my working out said. For the question part, the working out was:
5C2 x (4 + 3 x 3) = 130
Dafuq, how does that explain anything?
Okay, that's all. If there's someone out there who will take pity on me, again, I would be really grateful. Thanks :D
Romanticism should go die in a hole.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Okay okay I lied. I actually do have more to say. (To echo the words of my favourite Korean drama blogger, Javabeans, "Brevity is not my friend. I want to be its friend, but it shuns me regularly.") So let me clarify. I don't HATE Romanticism as a topic per se, I just hate how difficult it is to find related texts for the subject.
You must be thinking, how is that possible? There must be a billion books and poems out there about Romanticism! That might be true but the fact is, I would rather stick pins into my eyeballs than read any more poetry or classical literature.
For example, while I was haunting the library today (I use the word haunting because everytime I'm in there, I feel like Moaning Myrtle. Seriously, try spending 12 periods a week in there and see if you don't go insane) I decided that I should probably get a head start on finding related texts. Predictably, the library didn't have anything. So I tried reading something on my laptop. Three chapters into Mopey Dickhead Moby Dick, I felt like giving up. Not because it's bad or anything but just because books like that no longer capture my attention. I want to read something entertaining that doesn't require functioning brain cells. And plus, I HATE choosing related texts. I HATE IT. How do you know what you choose is going to be relevant for the HSC question? What if the Romanticism question deals with imagination but the texts that I've chosen barely mention anything about it. What would I do?? My whole HSC could quite possibly hinge on that one question and its marks.
Le sigh. Whatever. I'm just gonna bo back to doing maths homework. Good ol' dependable maths - too predictable and monotonous to ever become a threat to my HSC. (Oh damn, did I just jinx myself?).
P.S. If you're reading this Othilia, maths homework is question 1-7 of exercise 5.8, and the whole of 5.9. I tried ringing you to tell you that but no one picked up the phone.
Today's math test results made me feel like shit. Shit that had been left on the side of the road to fester and attract flies. Big ol' smelly, craptastic shit. It is by far the worst I've done in a maths test ever. And the worst part is, every single one of those marks I lost (except for the long surd question in the last section) came from a silly mistake or temporary brain fart. Yeah I feel shit. And I feel even more shit because of how shit I feel over this test.
Hooray for me, I have now joined the "People Who Have Cried Because Of A Stupid Maths Test" club.
It's no secret that my parents don't really care about tests (unless they're the HSC of course). Everytime I tell them that I've got a test coming up, they don't really give a rat's ass which sometimes isn't a bad thing because I don't get any added pressure from them, like a lot of people do. But sometimes it can be a bit frustrating.
Like now for example. I've got the bloody 3u maths test to study for but now my whole Sunday has been taken up 'cause of my mum's tap-dancing concert thing. Everybody with me: EWWWWWWWWWWWwwwwwwwwwWWWW. No offense mum, but I would rather gouge my eyeballs out with a blunt scalpel than watch you dance on stage. Yes I know that sounds a bit harsh but really, I've gone to every single one of those damned concerts for like 3-4 years now without fail and every time I feel a sense of regret that I didn't just stay home and watch reruns of Dr Phil because even that would be preferable to watching you dance.
Now she's all like, "I'm making you go tot he concert. It doesn't matter if you have a test on Monday - it's only maths. Everyone can do maths."
No mum, no.
First off: Cecilia, I am very proud of you :D IT'S ABOUT TIME YOU READ THEM BOOKS.
Secondly: I came home really depressed about 4u maths. My mum took one look at me and was like, "What's wrong with you?" And then I was like, "I don't like maths." So then she said, "Drop it. Don't do extension 2." And right after she said that, I felt like a weight had been lifted off my chest.
If that is not an indication of what I should do, I don't know what is.
I think I already knew when Jimmy said "Oh, and you'll have extra classes if you do Extension 2."
And also when Metwally came into my year 11 maths class and said, "You'll have no life. You'll have no friends. You'll just be doing maths every day. It will never end." I'm pretty sure that was a major indication.
And when I look around my maths class and see everybody's willingness to learn, despite having such a craptastic teacher - I kind of feel like I'm the odd one out because I don't have same determination/focus as everyone else.
I think it's pretty clear what I should do.
