Gif Party for ICED

ICED deserves a review but writing one would be kind of pointless since not many people have read The Fever Series. Frankly, I also don't think anyone really gives a shit. I don't blame you. I try to tone down the fangirlism - really I do, but it leaks out anyway. Wait, I have an appropriate gif around here somewhere.

So um yeah. Have a gif spam reaction instead (no spoilers, don't worry):

Me at the beginning, reacquainting myself with Moning's expansive world:

Reading about 14-year-old Dani's innuendo-laden interactions with the grown, immortal men around her (not to mention Dani's... inappropriate but hilarious first meeting with Ryodan in this book):

When shit started getting real:

ENTER MAC AND BARRONS (ALBEIT BRIEFLY) ON PAGE 149 OF 495:

Dani runs round Dublin kicking Unseelie ass:

Dani and Dancer being like the bettest buds and stuff, hatching plans, looking out and squirreling away food for one another:

Christian being creepy and perpetually horny because of his Unseelie transformation:

That thing that happens at the end of chapter 31:

The totally random and incongruous mention of Linkin Park, Muse, Adele, Jimi Hendrix and Nicki Minaj on page 467 in the middle of a post-apocolyptic, urban fantasy novel. (LOL, no really, that was so random. I had to to read those passages twice to comprehend having "Ryodan" and "Nick Minaj" in the same paragraph:

He scrolls through the playlist. "What's the deal with all the Linkin Park, for fuck's sake."

"Dudes, we need noise. Quit taking the iPod off the dock." Dancer snatches the iPod from Ryodan and puts it back on the dock. "And Mega has a crush on Chester."

"I do not!"

"Do too, Mega."

"He's like, old!"

"How old?" Christian says.

"Like at least thirty or something!"

Lor laughs. "Fucking ancient, ain't it, kid?"

"Dude," I agree. I like Lor.

"You got any Adele?" Jo says hopefully.

"Not a single song," I say happily. "Got some Nicki Minaj, though."

"Somebody kill me now," Ryodan says and closes his eyes.

(From page 467 of ICED)

It was like watching Doctor Who and having Blair from Gossip Girl suddenly appear out of nowhere to shout "DAMN THAT MOTHER-CHUCKER!" That's how weird it was.

All in all, when I reached the end:

So like, that's it I guess. No more ICED/Fever Series for at least another year. It's okay. I can wait. No biggie. I've done it before, I can do it again. Really, it's fine.

,

Christian, you creepy

Firstly, before I forget: GOOD LUCK TOMORROW CHEMISTRY PEEPS! For most of you, that's probably your last exam right? Hooray! Think of how much fun you can have afterwards :D

Visual Art-ers.... well, your time will come too.... eventually.

Okay, so I'm halfway through ICED (been pacing myself to make it last) and so far I reckon it's all sorts of awesome.... despite the pedo overtones. (Would a 3 year time jump have been so hard to pull off? Really?)

Christian: "Don't use that tone with me."

Dani: "What tone?"

Christian: "The one that thinks I'm some kind of freak predator that molests children. I'm not a freak and you're not a child. I undressed you, lass. I cleaned you up. I healed you. I will never hurt you."

Sorry Christian but you still creepy.

I don't care if turning into an Unseelie Prince did weird things to your biological make-up - if you don't step like, a hundred paces away from 14-year old adolescent Dani, I'm going to have to do something drastic. Like castrate you.

Ryodan on the other hand is keeping his boundaries - ish. I'm only halfway though; let's just hope it stays that way.

Dani, of course, is ten types of attitude all rolled up in one human-sized, red-headed vessel.

"Dude, where do you want me to go? I can't go anywhere without my sword. I can't outrun the sifters. Every Fae in your club has a hard-on for killing me. You want me dead? Just do it yourself and get it over with."

He stabs a button on his desk. "Lor, get in here."

Lor blows in like he was plastered to the other side of the door. "Escort the kid to clean the fuck up and get that stench off her."

"Sure thing, boss." He scowls at me.

I scowl right back.

Lor points through the glass floor. "See that blonde down there with the big tits? I was about to get laid."

"One, I'm too young to hear that kind of stuff, and two, I don't see you carrying a club to knock her over the head with, so how were you going to accomplish that?"

Behind me, Ryodan laughs.

"You're runing my night, kid."

"Ditto. Ain't life at Chester's grand?"

Oh and on page 149, Barrons and Mac finally make their first appearance.

"So I'm walking across the dance floor, cutting a beeline straight for the stairs to head up to Ryodan's office to do whatevr it is he wants me to do, when I see her.

She's moving across the main floor with Jericho Barrons behind her, and it looks like they're heading for one of the subclubs, though I can't figure out why. Mac doesn't like it here any more than I do."

Excuse me while I go express my joy at having my babies back.

GLORIOUS, GLORIOUS ICED

IS THAT NOT THE MOST GLORIOUS THING YOU'VE EVER SEEN???

..........

Yes, I did just instagram a book and post it on my blog for everyone to see. I'm cool like that after all.

So like, I took a 2 hour trip down to Nowra to pick up that old thing. LOL jokes, no I didn't. My Dad bought it for me from Kinokuniya as a gift. I'm so happy - I feel like doing cartwheels 'round the house or something. Now I just have to figure out whether I'm going to devour the whole thing in one go or pace myself. I remember trying to pace myself with the last Harry Potter book. I also remember failing epic-ly at that so....

Far out, this is so hard. If I finish it, I'm going to have to wait another year for the next one. I hate the waiting :(

Anyway I'm going to stop here 'cause I can tell you guys don't give a rat's ass what I do with this book. Till next time then!

P.S. I finished my HSC today.... but that's nothing compared to getting Iced

,

Iced comes out tomorrow!!!

This was on Karen Marie Moning's facebook page:

“I make a new discovery that totally blows…dying is the easy part. It’s coming back to life that sucks.” ICED

The other day one of my friends was asking about the new book coming out. He’s a huge fan of the FEVER series, and hangs out at my FB page regularly so I was surprised to discover he had no idea what ICED was about, or where it fit into the overall FEVER story arc. I realized you could probably use some clarification, too.

ICED is the sixth book in the Fever series. The only difference is ICED is narrated by Dani, interspersed with various other first-person points of view. (One of those first person points of view is Christian MacKeltar.)

ICED opens up one week before Shadowfever ends, at the sidhe-seer’s abbey, the morning after the Cruce got imprisoned beneath it. You don’t miss a beat in the action I developed in the prior books.

Some of the characters you will see: Dani, Dancer, Ryodan, Christian, Lor, Jo, Kat, Cruce, Velvet, a glimpse or two of Mac & Barrons, and many others.

BURNED and FLAYED are books 7 & 8 in the Fever series. Again, told from Dani’s viewpoint, plus others. Books 9 & 10 will return to Mac’s point of view. Mostly. If you don’t read 6, 7 & 8, books 9 and 10 won’t make any sense.

Here are a few of the main questions I keep getting asked.

Q: How old is Dani in this series?
A: 14 when it starts. 17 when it ends.

Q: Ew. Teens can’t have sex!
A: Right. What world are you living in?

Q: Does she have sex at 14?
A: No.

Q: Is there sex in this trilogy?
A: Have you forgotten who's writing it?

Q: Is Dani’s voice the same as it was in the Fever books?
A: No. In the Fever books Dani was 5% of the story, so I made her voice colorful enough to stand out in an epic world. In ICED, her story is epic, so her voice is more natural, more her own. (This answers Othilia's question.)

Q: Do these books end on cliffhangers?
A: No. ICED gives a solid feel-good wrap.

Q: Do you love Dani’s story as much as Mac’s?
A: Absolutely, and I was astonished by that. I thought it was going to be much harder to leave Mac and Barrons than it was. I realized I hadn’t left them at all. I’d merely detoured down a different dark street in Dublin. Still looking up at the Old World façade of BB&B at night, with all the lights on, still seeing Barrons ‘(Bugatti in ICED) glide down the street, still watching Mac’s toss her hair across Chester’s dance floor. Just watching it through different eyes.

Stay tuned for an excerpt soon…

That fourth question makes me laugh.

So.......

Judging from what I see up there, Iced is starting to sound like a glorified sexfest or something. LOL. (Shame on everyone for asking KMM those questions! Hehe. Okay, I was kind of curious but still... Control your hormones people!)

It probably won't be though 'cause I trust KMM and I trust that her stories will have plot and character development - even if they are urban fantasy and not profound literary fiction. (Year 12 English has turned me off anything that requires brain power. After the HSC, I'll probably go back to reading books that don't corrupt my brain but in the meantime....)

Even if it was a glorified sexfest, here's to hoping more than half of that stuff will be about Jericho Z. Barrons ;)

It's okay, you can say it: I have no shame. Someone really needs to give me a good series to read to make this waiting easier.

Feelings

People who know me know that it's really hard to make me cry for a movie, book or tv show. I can think of maybe just two incidents in my entire life where I got teary over something I watched or read: the first of these being that time I read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak and the second being Toy Story 3. (There was also that strange moment years ago when an episode of SYTYCD made my eyes itch but that might have been because of a weird hormonal glitch...) It's not that I don't feel emotions - I felt angry after watching The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, depressed after The Pursuit of Happiness and mildly empty after the last Harry Potter book - but all those feelings came with a certain sense of detachment, like I was feeling it.... but at the same time not feeling it.

Haha, this is really hard to explain. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I don't cry over books/movies. I've got Tian to do that for me, lol.

Which is why it's so weird that this morning, the book I was reading made my eyes go a little bit teary.

What is this mindfuckery???

That was my first reaction. My kobo e-reader told me I was only on page 168 of 424 and already I was feeling ~EMOTIONS~. I thought, how was this possible?? Is this a strange side effect of the HSC or am I just reading something totes awesome. WHAT COULD POSSIBLY THAW OUT THIS FROZEN HEART OF MINE??

It's still too early to say what happened and I'm barely near the middle of the book so it would be stupid to try to write a review. I just wanted to let you guys know about this strange occurrence. I won't blog about it yet but I will post a related picture here.

Now for something totally different and not as melancholy:

ICED COMES OUT IN THREE DAYS!!!

My sentiments exactly.

My love for the Fever Series is inexplicable and has probably been unreasonably exacerbated by the amount of time I spend on goodreads or fangirling over Barrons. I can't help it okay? We all have our guilty pleasures.

If you STILL haven't read it, this is my not-so-subtle hint that you should go out and purchase the whole series. Like now. Or maybe after the HSC. Will I ever stop doing this? Er no. If I could, I would probably haunt your dreams and whisper to your subconsciousness to do so. HURRY UP AND FUCKING READ ALREADY GUYS SO WE CAN SHARE OUR FEELINGS AND STUFF BEFORE I EXPLODE. IT'S BEEN LIKE, ALMOST A YEARRRRR.

Okay, till next time then.

P.P.S. I wish youtube would stop changing its layout every five seconds. It's getting annoying.
